Rock: Can You Dig It, Baby: Present meets the Past

Yep…another garbage collection of tunes that don’t really fit into our other categories…

we try our best not to duplicate songs but as our lists grow there’s more of a chance of duplication…so even though we try our best to avoid it, some of these songs may also be found on other lists…

and, as always, these are songs we have Blipped in the past…and all links go to the Blip…however, as always, Blip may not always have them available.

Generally speaking we don’t Blip a lot of ‘ new ‘ songs…we tend more toward older songs and classic oldies…and more specifically one-hit wonders and rare songs…

why?

Because the ‘ new ‘ popular stuff gets played all the time…whereas the stuff we play sometimes doesn’t even get played at all.

And it’s cool giving the new generation a taste of our music, the stuff we grew up on…and sparking a few memories for our generation in the process.

100 Rare Classic Rock Songs 4

I wish I could find my list of songs that I wanted to get…at one time I had an extensive list of songs, that I didn’t have, that I wanted to add to my collection. The problem with ‘ rare ‘ classic songs ( rock or other ) is that they are very hard to remember…unlike popular, extensively played, songs by groups like the Doors or Stones…just hearing one of their songs can remind you of the others. Rare songs, by contrast, you almost never hear played, some you might not have heard at all since they were first released…so, in many cases, all you’ve got is a vague memory of them.
In cases like this a list is very important, because, if nothing else, just seeing the name on a piece of paper can trigger your memory. I had so many great songs on that ‘ to get list ‘ that it’s sad I have no idea where it went.

I’ve tried my best not to duplicate the same artist and/or song on these pages but, as I’ve created several pages and abandoned alphabetical order, it’s possible that a duplicate slipped past me. So if you see one please tell me in a comment and I’ll correct it. Spanks!

Some of these are rare songs that never made the Top 40 ( but should have ), some are rare one-hit-wonders, and all of these are worth your time tracking down and adding to your collections.

100 Rare Classic Rock Songs 3

Most of these songs, like in our other two lists ( and many songs in our general lists ), you will likely never hear on Classic Rock Stations. Why? Because radio stations cater to the interests of their advertisers, and as a result usually only play very popular Top 40 by well-known groups and artists.

Many of these songs I had on 45 as a kid and later as collector of one-hit wonders and rare hard-to-find classics. I also had several compilation albums which were very popular back in the early 70′s. Albums put out by companies like K-Tel or Pepsi.

If you come from the 60’s or 70’s generation, or are a hard-core classic rock lover, some of these you might remember, and many you will remember if you listen to them, and many that you don’t remember but should listen to.

If you like music, and have a fondness for the classic oldies, you won’t want to just read this and not follow up on these tunes.

100 Rare Classic Rock Songs 2

To re-cap from our first list of 100 Rare Classic Rock Songs:

Many times good to excellent songs get passed up for a variety of reasons…for instance Decca once sent the Beatles a rejection letter saying that in their opinion they didn’t like their sound and guitar music was on it’s way out. Sometimes it’s a matter of not having the right connections, or not catching the eye ( ear ) of the right DJ who will give you the air-time.

If all you ever listen to is Top 40 pop radio, or Top 40 classic rock radio, chances are you’ve never even heard of most of these, and that’s too bad, because there’s really some great songs out there that never get played by commercial radio that caters to their advertisers and not the music.

Well…if you come from the 60’s or 70’s generation, or are a hard-core classic rock lover, some of these you might remember, and many you will remember if you listen to them, and many that you don’t remember but should listen to.
